Animals at Kirklington

At Kirklington Primary School we are privileged to share our school and grounds with our school pets. We have policies in place to ensure all of the animals are properly cared for, and staff and pupils alike enjoy massive benefits from working and learning alongside our pets.

Isla is our School Dog. She works in school Monday to Thursday, and has a day off with her doggy friends on a Friday. Isla is a three year old Goldendoodle. She likes to walk around school visiting everyone and meeting the children on the gate. She listens to children read and spends time in classrooms too. She would like to start a blog someday and plans to call it, "A Dog's Blog"! She enjoys belly-scratches and coming in to assembly.

Gordon is one of our cheeky guinea pigs. Gordon lives in Goodall Classroom with his best friend Joshua. He really loves joining in with our Phonics Sessions and can be heard throughout school squeaking and whistling loudly when he gets excited! The guinea-pigs go out in their run during the day with their Anning Class pals; Custard and Cream. They are long-haired guinea pigs and the children in Years 3 and 4 groom them and clean them out.

Years 5 and 6 are responsible for our rabbits. Wispa is our old school rabbit who has now retired.

Our new rabbits, Willow and Walnut, live in their purpose built enclosure in the Early Years outdoor area, so the Nursery and Reception children can see them and feed them treats. If you're feeling sad, a lovely rabbity-cuddle is a good way to cheer up!
